Billing Policies
MONTHLY TUITION
As a highly experienced and versatile music educator, I have established certain professional guidelines regarding the billing process, missed lessons, and late pick-up fees. Adherence allows this professional studio to flow smoothly and equitably for all.
Monthly tuition is NOT for actual lessons. Tuition reserves a weekly time-slot for each student within the studio schedule.
Payments accepted are PayPal, cash and PERSONAL checks. (NO BUSINESS CHECKS!)
Tuition secures age-appropriate time-slots for a weekly private lesson.
Private Lessons:
Ages 7 to 10+ : 30-minute lessons $30 / week
Ages 11 to 15+ : 45-minute lessons $45 / week
Ages 16+ (including adults) : 60-minute lessons $60 / week
* Some students are able and willing to have two separate lesson back-to-back, such as a 30 minute piano and 15 minute vocal. That's charged as a 45-min lesson. And a few tenacious students have also chosen two 30-minute lessons back to back, such as violin and vocal. That's charged as a 60 minute lesson. Something to keep in mind as your student grows and perhaps expands their interests!
FEES
1) A. One-Time Registration: Besides Monthly Tuition, each new student is required to pay a one-time non-refundable registration fee of $50.00. For Families with more than one student, the cost per student is $25 instead.
B. Annual Materials Fee (For continuing students, only!): $50 each in August/September. This fee covers in-studio materials, resources, games, apps, etc. & also provides for students' own personal specialized arrangements, print-outs of seasonal music, etc. For Families with more than one student, the cost per student is $45 instead.
4) Recital Fee: Recital fees are the cost of a lesson plus $15. So a student taking 30 minute lessons pays $45, 45 minute lessons pay $60, and 60 minute students (including siblings with lessons back-to-back) will pay $75.
3) Books & Additional Supplies: Beginning students will select their own lesson book from a wide variety of options. Primers cost about $7 and are included in the Registration or materials fee. HOWEVER, transferring and/or continuing students will occasionally graduate to new books. Intermediate/advanced books can cost between $10 – 15, and may even be in a group of three. These will be chosen personally by the student and family, and we'll discuss cost also when making the selection.
ATTENDANCE
Missed Lessons & “Make-ups”
ON the occasion that a student must miss a lesson, please advise me as soon as possible. If the studio is notified at least 48 hours in advance, we can either schedule a ‘make-up’ lesson OR charge a lower rate on the following month’s tuition. This is called a 'class credit'. Be advised: each student is allowed only ONE make-up lesson OR one credit from the previous month.
ON the occasion that I become sick or am otherwise unavailable, I will let you know as soon as possible. I will automatically give as many credits as I am sick/unavailable, independent of the student’s own credits.
“Late Pick-Up” FEES
Parents, please be prompt in picking up your child after his/her lesson. Each student pays for a particular time-slot. The studio charges an extra fee for any child not picked up within ten minutes of the end of their lesson or class. Late pick-up fees are simply charged as an extra 30-minute lesson at the rate of $30. This is for the child’s own safety. This is also because each student is entitled to his/her privacy during lessons, as they are paid time-slots on part of the scheduled student. Additionally, picking children up on-time is for the student's own safety.
Parent-Determined TERMINATION OF LESSONS or CLASSES
If a student and/or parent should decide to terminate lessons, the studio requires a ONE-WEEK WRITTEN NOTICE. For families with multiple students, a written notice for EACH student must be provided. Regardless of when appropriate notice is given, such student or parent/guardian shall be held financially responsible for the following week’s lessons.
Studio-Determined TERMINATIONS
As a professional music educator, I support and care for all of my students and their families. One-on-one education is very rigorous. The connection between teacher, student and families can become rich and nurturing. Nevertheless, the studio reserves the right to terminate a student's lessons for infractions such as (but not limited to) the following:
1. Inappropriate behavior toward anyone on the part of the student. This includes violent out-lashings, swearing and/or verbal abuse, defamation of character, unacceptable advances or any other displays that violate respect and decency.
2. Inappropriate behavior toward anyone on the part of a student's relations. This includes all of the above.
3. Attendance by student and/or relation in any type of intoxicated state.
4. Inappropriate family behavior that disturbs any student lessons (be it their own student or others) and thus disrespectfully disrupts our time and learning.
If you have any questions, please email [email protected] at any time. During the day, feel free to call the studio at (510) 461.6891. Simply leave a message. I'll return your call at the earliest convenience. Thank you for taking the time to read and understand what is expected from students, families and the teacher.
I look forward to our Venture into the Exciting World of Music!
