Studio Procedures & Expectations
Philosophy and Mission
FAMILY INVOLVEMENT
Active family support is extremely important for younger students. I strongly urge parents/guardians to occasionally attend a lesson so that they are better equipped to monitor and/or assist with home practice sessions. Part of good practice is setting aside a semi-isolated space where students can get loud and experimental, without distractions from TV, telephones, doorbells, and family members. For adults, this is especially regarding spouses and kids. For children it's usually their siblings!
RELATIVES IN LESSONS
For children and adults of any age, family members are welcome to attend when everyone remains respectful of one another. It is too distracting for students if family members are disruptive during a lesson. Please take the initiative to remove yourself and/or young siblings from the studio before these situations arise. Help us ensure lessons are free from such disturbances.
EARLY or LATE
If you should arrive early for your scheduled lesson time, please wait outside. Five minutes before scheduled time, you may quietly enter the studio, being careful not to disturb the studying student(s).
Parents, please be prompt in picking up your child after his/her lesson. Each student pays for a particular time-slot. The studio charges an extra fee for any child not picked up within ten minutes of the end of their lesson or class. Late pick-up fees are simply charged as an extra 30-minute lesson at the rate of $30. This is also because each student is entitled to his/her privacy during lessons, as they are paid time-slots on part of the scheduled student. Additionally, picking children up on-time is for the student's own safety.
MAKE-UP or CREDITED Lessons
ON the occasion that a student must miss a lesson, please advise me as soon as possible. If the studio is notified at least 48 hours in advance, we can either schedule a Wednesday ‘make-up’ lesson OR charge a lower rate on the following month’s tuition. This is called a 'class credit'. Be advised: Each student is allowed only ONE make-up lesson OR ONE credit from the previous month. There is only ONE lesson slot for each student, on ONE Wednesday a month that will be open for make-up lessons. If students/parents cannot participate on that month's Wednesday, they *must* choose the forward credit option. If they miss either opportunity, it will NOT roll forward another month and the payment for that lesson is automatically forfeit.
* ON the occasion that I become sick or otherwise unavailable, I will let you know as soon as possible. I will automatically give as many credits as I am unavailable, independent of the student’s own credits.
TERMINATIONS
As a professional music educator, I support and care for all of my students and their families. One-on-one education is very rigorous, and the connection between teacher, student and families can become rich and nurturing. However, there are some rare circumstances in which terminations occur, either determined by parents and students, or by the studio. These are discussed in detail in the Billing Policy._
